J-Teen Leadership secures funding for Hurricane Katrina Displaced Families

In April 2006, J-Teen Leadership was responsible for securing grant money from UJA-Federation of New York's Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund to purchase three meeting tents, one for each of the three Baton Rouge, LA FEMA Trailer sites at the Baton Rouge airport to provide a sheltered place where medical providers and social service personnel could meet with displaced people being housed in trailers. In January 2011, J-Teen Leadership will be making the fourth trip back to Baton Rouge and New Orleans to lend a hand, visit with people in need and bring needed supplies and resources. Trip co-chairs: Charlotte Bilski, Sydney Brown, Lindsay Hughson and Michelle Wexler. We did not forget! The stories of the people we have met are etched in our hearts. We're coming back.
